I have been the Chairman of the Dutch area of the Grayling Society since the late eighties so have known Steve Rhodes for a very long time.I met him several times but we never fished together until the early nineteen nineties.  So when I finally got the opportunity to fish some of the Yorkshire Rivers with Steve I really jumped at the chance.  It is always a big honour to fish with a famous and skilful fly fisherman.

We had a few awesome days together and although the start of the fishing was extremely poor due to terrible weather conditions, the company and fishing were great.  We had a lot of fun together and I also learned a lot about the traditional ways to fish Yorkshire Rivers.  When the weather finally changed we ended up with some great catches and the particular day of the Popeye fly will stay in my memory forever.  That story must be famous by now.

Now I am retired and I hope to fish with Steve soon again…..
