Our excellent Chalkstreams guide and instructor Mick Siggery reports:

‘On 19th October I was guiding Lol Harris on the River Itchen just outside Winchester.  It was very mild for the time of year.  I had Lol fishing nymphs New Zealand style under a size 14 black Klinkhamer.  A size 18 goldhead Pheasant Tail was not getting down to the fish so I changed him to a size 14 tungsten Hares Ear and he caught two small Grayling and the better one (pictured below).  We moved up river changing to a purple size 14 Czech nymph, again with a tungsten bead to get down to the fish.  Lol took four more Grayling up to about 1lb.  It was a good day for Lol who had only been fly fishing for six months.’One of Lol's Grayling
