Rutland Water and Grafham Water are legendary in English stillwater Trout fly fishing circles. Situated around 30 miles east of Leicester / Coventry and around 70 miles north of central London, the fly fishing on these lakes is mainly for hard fighting Rainbow Trout although large Brown Trout, Pike and Zander can be caught by those who target them.

At around 3,500 acres, and with 26 miles of shoreline, Rutland Water is regarded as one of the best stillwater trout fisheries in Europe. Set in very scenic rolling countryside, it is stocked annually with over 80,000 Trout and fly hatches are often very prolific. Another attraction of Rutland Water is the possibility of seeing Ospreys while you are fishing. Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire is famous for its large Brown Trout (to nearly 20lbs!) and Rainbow Trout which grow fast in the rich water of this 1,500 acre mature reservoir.

At Rutland Water we have access to superb lakeside fishing lodge facilities. These enable us to deliver a very high standard of professional fly fishing tuition in a stunning setting. As well as carrying out beginners fly fishing tuition here it is also an ideal base for a corporate fly fishing event. What to expect

These are large sometimes deep lakes and while they can be fished from the bank it is often better to take out a boat. Although they all contain very good stocks of Trout location of them can be a challenge to a newcomer to this type of water. Thus to make the most of your day, to maximise on the chance of a good catch and to learn the best local fly fishing techniques it is always advisable to hire the services of an experienced local guide. The open season on Rutland Water and Grafham Water runs from late-March to late-December with very good fishing to be had from mid-April right through to mid-November.
