Fly fishing in the Lake District

The English Lake District

The Lake District National Park offers some superb fly fishing opportunities amidst stunning mountain scenery. With good stocks of wild brown trout throughout the region, a wide choice of quality fishing is available, from the larger lakes such as Ullswater, Buttermere, Windermere and Coniston through to smaller mountain tarns and tumbling streams. These more remote waters offer the visiting angler a unique opportunity to really escape the crowds and enjoy fishing somewhere well off the beaten track.

There is also some excellent river fishing available, particularly in the north of the county on the River Eden where the trout and grayling fishing is world famous, in addition Cumbrian River Derwent holds some great specimen brown trout on both the main river and also its delightful upper tributary, the River Greta. Both the River Eden and River Derwent also have good runs of salmon and regularly appear in the top three salmon producing rivers in England and Wales.

In recent years many anglers have been testing their fly fishing skills against the mighty pike, and the Lake District offers some world class fly fishing for these superb sporting fish. Typical days involve targeting the fish from one of our boats and with pike to over twenty pounds being present in most waters there is an opportunity to put a serious bend in an angler's rod. During the summer months we even get them on surface lures, which provides some heart stopping action.

Being close to the Yorkshire Dales means that it is easy to combine a day or two's fishing in the Lake District with a day or two in the Dales. A super combination for a short-break.

The Lake District is in easy reach of Manchester, Leeds and Bradford and a direct rail link from London to Penrith makes it easy to visit even from the south of England. Collection from Penrith station can be arranged.
