Fly Fishing in Wales - The Rivers Dee, Severn, Wye, Irfon, Usk and Taff
Go Fly Fishing UK provide guided days, fly fishing tuition and fly fishing short breaks in the beautiful valleys of south, north and mid-Wales.
Our guides and instructors have a lifetime of experience of fishing the rivers and lakes of Wales and we can suggest a variety of excellent riverside accommodations, with options including country hotels, inns, bed & breakfast and self-catering cottages, each within easy walking distance of very good fly fishing water.
These are medium sized freestone rivers containing excellent stocks of wild Brown Trout. The Usk (pictured above left) is recognised as being the best Brown Trout river in Wales whilst the Severn, Dee, Taff and Wye (pictured above right) also contain excellent stocks of often-large Grayling, as well as boasting some top class tributary streams such as the River Irfon. All these rivers also contain Atlantic Salmon. The scenery through which these rivers flow is stunning and includes the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains. The many wild Welsh mountain lakes provide very enjoyable stillwater Brown Trout fly fishing.
Access to Wales is easy from Birmingham and the West Midlands, Bristol and the South West and from Manchester and the North West. Travel time from London is around four hours making a weekend in Wales a very attractive prospect.
Your guide/instructor will provide you with instruction in the appropriate local fly fishing techniques and, if required, fly casting tuition and loan of all the necessary fly fishing tackle, waders, flies, etc. He can also collect you from a local accommodation or railway station.
Cost
Guided days or fly fishing tuition days start from as little as £160, with the cost depending on the water being fished, the number of fishers and the season.
What to expect
We have expert local guides based in north Wales, mid-Wales and south Wales. Our guide/instructor in mid-Wales is a qualified instructor and has been fly fishing for 30 years. His main local water is the upper River Severn.
Our main guide/instructor in south Wales is a former Welsh national rivers champion. He guides for Trout and Grayling on the upper River Wye, as well as knowing the rivers Usk, Irfon, Taff and Towy (Sea Trout) very well. He is a master at short-line 'high-sticking' pocket-water Czech nymph fishing and he can show you how to catch large Trout and Grayling from spots you would not believe could hold such large fish.
Our principle guide/instructor in north Wales has a lifetime of experience fishing the rivers and lakes of north Wales and Shropshire. He has lived in this area all his life and he is also an experienced fly tier.
A day out with any one of our guides will teach you lessons for life that will enable you to catch more fish and also to enjoy your river fishing more.
