We have particular strengths in river Brown Trout and Grayling fly fishing and have access to some exclusive beats in the south and north of England, in the north and south Midlands, in southern Scotland and in north, mid, south and west Wales. To make the very most out of your limited fishing time it’s not enough just to be fishing in a good area on a good water. Our personal knowledge and experience enables us to provide you with the very best advice and guidance to ensure that you have great fly fishing experiences.
All of our guides hold nationally recognised REFFIS (Register of Experienced Fly Fishing Instructors, Schools and Guides), Level 2 or AAPGAI qualifications and some are Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guides.

Where to fish
Southern England (near to London)
In the south of England Go Fly Fishing UK have guiding expertise on a number of chalkstream and limestone rivers in Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds. In Hampshire the famous rivers Test and Itchen provide superb Trout and Grayling fly fishing. In Berkshire the River Kennet and its tributary the River Lambourn are very special chalkstreams for fly fishers. The River Wylye is the best of the Wiltshire chalkstreams and the River Coln is the very best Cotswolds fly fishing river. It is a rich limestone stream and as well as containing a good head of often large Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Grayling it flows through perfect peaceful ‘picture postcard’ English countryside.
Dave Martin, our head guide in southern England, has been living in Hampshire and fishing these streams for 15 years. He is an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide, has the Level 2 licence/qualification and is REFFIS accredited. To the right Dave is pictured with a 26” Brownie he caught on a size 16 dry Adams and a 6x tippet. Dave guides full time all year round and as he guides mainly on the chalk streams, most frequently the very special River Test, he can guide you to dry fly sport 12 months of the year (but not from 15th to 31st March!). There are some beats on the River Test and the River Kennet where Dave has guided on more than 100 occasions.
Northern England
In Yorkshire we have access to some exclusive beats on the limestone River Wharfe and River Aire in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Both these rivers offer superb wild Brown Trout fly fishing with the fish in the Aire often topping 20 inches. The River Wharfe is also a particularly good Grayling river. There are some excellent stillwater options in the Dales with one in particular, Malham Tarn, providing just about the best, although challenging, wild Brown Trout lake fishing in England – take a look at the picture to the left. This fish, caught at Malham Tarn by Steve Rhodes our head guide in the north of England, weighed around 4lbs but Steve has had them there to well over 5lbs.
Steve has lived and fished in Yorkshire all his life and is currently Chairman of the Grayling Society. He is an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide, has the Level 2 licence/qualification and has been REFFIS accredited. There are stretches of the River Wharfe where Steve has guided on more than 100 occasions and he lives less than one mile from where very large wild Brown Trout can be caught on the upper reaches of the superb River Aire.
In East Yorkshire we have access to the excellent limestone and chalkstream rivers around Pickering and Driffield, including the crystal clear Costa Beck, Oxfolds Beck and West Beck. These provide superb Brown Trout and Grayling fly fishing with both species running to large sizes in these fly-rich waters.
In the Lake District the River Eden and River Eamont are in our opinion the very best. Here again excellent fly fishing is available for wild Brown Trout and Grayling, with both reaching large sizes.
The limestone streams of the Derbyshire Peak District offer excellent fly fishing opportunities and we offer guided days on the River Dove, River Wye and River Derwent. All contain very good stocks of wild Brown Trout and Grayling with the Wye being famous for also having Britain’s only successful wild breeding population of Rainbow Trout....and there are many of them!
Wales
Go Fly Fishing UK offer guided fly fishing days on the rivers of mid, south and north Wales. The River Dee in north Wales and the River Severn and River Wye in mid-Wales all offer wild Brown Trout and superb Grayling fishing. The River Usk, in and near to the Brecon Breacons, is the best Brown Trout river in Wales, with both many and large wild fish. All these rivers also offer the chance of a Salmon. The Welsh valleys and mountains are particularly scenic and also offer some very good stillwater options for those fly fishers who like to catch Brownies in unspoilt wild locations.
